Este artículo tiene como objetivo presentar al lector brasileño un balance bibliográfico de las interpretaciones generales sobre el carácter y funcionamiento del Estado boliviano en la década de 1970. Para ello, aborda los siguientes puntos: 1) presentación de las interpretaciones predominantes sobre la permanencia de el régimen militar boliviano durante el período Banzer; y 2) presentación de las interpretaciones más importantes sobre el carácter y funcionamiento del Estado boliviano, a menudo considerado como un "estado atrasado". El análisis bibliográfico aquí realizado busca contribuir al desarrollo de una investigación más amplia sobre el tema: realizar una investigación del régimen militar a la luz del funcionamiento estructural y global del Estado boliviano. Este artigo visa apresentar ao leitor brasileiro um balanço bibliográfico das interpretações gerais sobre o caráter e funcionamento do Estado boliviano nos anos 70. Para tanto, aborda os seguintes pontos: 1) apresentação das interpretações predominantes sobre a permanência do regime militar boliviano sobre o período Banzer; e 2) apresentação das interpretações mais importantes sobre o caráter e funcionamento do Estado boliviano, frequentemente considerado como "Estado atrasado". A análise bibliográfica aqui feita busca contribuir para o desenvolvimento de uma pesquisa de maior envergadura sobre o assunto: realizar uma investigação do regime militar à luz do funcionamento estrutural e global do Estado boliviano.
