| Summary: | The concept of instrumental authoritarianism, formulated by Wanderley Guilherme dos Santos, aims to designate the authoritarian postures characteristic of some Brazilian thinkers in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. This type of authoritarianism, according to Santos, would have transience as its main characteristic. It would have been the means found by some actors to build a democratic society through non-democratic methods. The work proposed here will question the argument that supports the concept of Instrumental Authoritarianism. To obtain such a result, an analysis of Oliveira Vianna's work will be carried out. |
