| Summary: | About to complete two hundred years as an independent state, Brazil is currently facing a horizon not conducive to celebrations around a common past and a future to share. Shaken in its fundamental institutions, the country is submerged in an economic and socio-political crisis marked by the growing political instrumentalization of hate and various forms of discrimination. In this nation of cloudy horizons, successive attacks have been made on formulations about national identity that seek to articulate a national past and future open to diversity. In place of an identity construction that claims to be plural, the horror of exclusivist and supremacist historical theses about what nationality would be resurfaces on the Brazilian horizon. |
