Photograph as a register: notes on the images in Dr. Henry Selwyn

In this article I propose to look at the images from the first part of Sebald's book The Emigrants, to reflect on the role they play in the construction of the narrative, causing a deviation. If, on the one hand, they create the “effect of reality”, on the other, they are so close to the reader...
