| Summary: | The objective of this article is to provide an analytic explanation of the concept “social representations” in light of the debate of modernity. This lead us to Durkheim, pioneer in considering social representations as instruments which allow social representation/saying. Weber and Habermas allow to explore the process of cultural and social racionalization these social representations have undergone in the Western world with the advent of modernity as well as the predecessors of identification of pertinent issues this process brings to the production of cultural meanings. This trajectory has an obvious conclusion in that they reflect on the validity of “social representations” in the symbolic structure of complex societies. |
