| Summary: | In the 1960s, folk song renovation projects were developed in Latin American, seeing the music as a political weapon. In this context, the nuevo cancionero movement was launched in Argentina, proposing new directions for argentine popular song, but also seeking integration between the political music experiences across the continent. The purpose of this article is to discuss the South America union project proposed in the argentine album Cantata Sudamericana (1972), project conceived by the musician Ariel Ramírez and thehistorian Felix Luna and with the participation of the singer Mercedes Sosa. The disc proposed a musical identity for South America and an approximation of countries with the goal of fighting for emancipation, in a context marked by the experiences of military dictatorships. |
