| Resumo: | Based on my Doctoral and Post-doctoral research at the State University of Campinas Institute of Art (UNICAMP), I outline a course plan for the study and practice of improvisation in Brazilian music. This work provides a possible model for the practical study of idiomatic improvisation in select urban genres from the popular music developed in Brazil in the first half of twentieth century, such us choro, frevo, samba and baião. For this purpose, I organized a set of activities that were tested and evaluated during two semesters (2014.1 e 2015.1) with undergraduate students in Popular Music at UNICAMP. Beyond the main goal of designing an efficient model for an “Improvisation” course, this research also sought to foment investigation and theoretical reflection through musical practice. Therefore, it contributes new research approaches in the field of performance studies in Popular Music. |
