Description
Summary:When we consider the role of a performer in popular song, we tend to favor some personalities above others. A simple-minded and immediate justification would lie on the issue of emotion. The interpretation of a singer moves you better because it is “truthful”, it suggests “scene control”, it seems that the singer “lives” the song and “feels” the music, granting interpreters a higher place. This article aims at discussing the interpretation process in “Tiro de Misericórdia” (“Mercy Shot”, by João Bosco and Aldir Blanc) in the work of singer Titane. Based on an interview with the artist, the text aims to describe her creative process in the song’s re-elaboration, the construction of its textual, body and vocal dramatic expression, as well as her discourse. It has been observed that the choice of the song is an imperative factor, for interpreters seize the song, molding it within their own body, with a skill that involves sound and its properties, while never waiving the imagination and ingenuity outlined by their experience and sociocultural background.
