Description
Summary:This article presents considerations about the origin and development of samba in Sao Paulo. It points out the resistance of its form of manifestation through the militancy of its protagonists. It intends to trace the main characteristics of the traditions that somehow came together for its formation (congada, moçambique, batuque of umbigada, jongo, samba de bumbo, tiririca and the shoeshine's batuque), and to map the influences incorporated in the samba as it is manifested in São Paulo. Its starting point is lectures and debates held at the Center for Research and Training of the National Trade Service in São Paulo (CPF-SESC) in2014-2015. It links the testimonies of the members of the traditions addressed to the speech of the researchers of the area and the bibliographical material available to propose some reflections, especially on the migration of popular religiosity to the profane calendar of the carnival.
