Description
Summary:The Movement Armorial was a cultural, political and artistic movement that encompassed several forms of art. Idealized by writer Ariano Suassuna (1927-2014), and integrated intellectuals and artists, the Movement intended to create an authentically Brazilian erudite art. The Movement Armorial considered that the raw material to make this art was in the Brazilian Northeast, because this region did not have much influence from globalization. Music was one of the artistic elements that stood out most. Nowadays it is possible to perceive its influence in the composition and performance of several musical groups and artists. Therefore, we try to understand, in the state of Pernambuco, the link of certain repertories and current musical practices with the armorial music. We interviewed artists that integrated the Movement Armorial and artists that use armorial influence in their music. For the analysis, we also consider the culture. We seek to understand how Brazilian Northeast was created epistemologically, and we reflect on the contexts of nationalism, regionalism, borders, and identity.
