Summary:What is a “useful job” today? This question may seem a priori unfounded, but it makes sense when we situate ourselves at the level of society as a whole. The question then becomes: what is a socially useful job? After briefly recalling the theoretical debates on the subject, this article puts forward two propositions: 1) There is no correlation between the salary remunerating a given job and the social utility of the latter; 2) There is a dialectical relationship between the distribution of wealth and the structure of jobs and wages. The latter is indeed both the condition and the reflection of the accumulation of wealth at a pole of society
