Description
Summary:The debate on housing in Brazil has resumed at a time of strong social demand, with the absence ofnational and state housing policies and insufficient supply from the private initiative to reduce theexisting housing deficit. The objective of the article is to show that there are important experienceson Social Technologies (ST) for housing already consolidated in the country and to argue that ST offeralternatives to face the housing problem. The argument is divided in two sections. The first offers abrief theoretical review of the ST concept; the second deals with the housing issue and the experiencescatalogued in the Social Technologies Bank (BTS) of the Banco do Brasil Foundation (FBB). At the end,it is stated that STs can improve government policy strategies in this area and considerations aremade on basic points for their inclusion in public housing actions and policies in Brazil.
