| Summary: | If there is a strength common to different works by Caio Prado Jr., it is - to say it with Antonio Candido - the strength of the concrete. It is an attempt to find a logic internal to the Brazilian national historical reality, refusing to see it “as it appears in deforming and exotic schemes and models”. In this article, limiting ourselves to the analysis of some of the central arguments of the book The Brazilian Revolution, we will try to explain how, by making the “concrete” emerge, Caio Prado Jr. will demonstrate that the left in the pre-coup of 1964 had been unable to analyze situations, understand the behavior of the actors, speculate with some plausibility about possible outcomes of their disputes, to identify which are the forces with which it can ally, which are opposed to it and, mainly, which would be the paths that would allow it to outline a revolutionary strategy that was more than a chimera. As a conclusion, we will see how the author would end up advancing in large part, in 1966, the central argument of O ornitorrinco (2003) by Francisco de Oliveira. |
