| Summary: | The article aims to address the importance of preserving historical documents of nature in the context of digital preservation. For that, it conceptualizes document, digital document and explains the importance of historical documents, placing the concern with the digitalization processes in digital environment, due to technological obsolescence. The methodology is done through bibliographic review, its nature is qualitative and the technical procedure done through bibliographic survey. The result brings a comparison of the destruction of physical collections, in case of destruction of historical documents from the National Museum, with the possible losses of the documents in a digital environment. Conclusions: Point out the absence of public policies that allow the preservation of digital documents in the long term. |
