Description
Summary:The Brazilian film production market has undergone changes in recent years and the challenge for independent producers to reach the traditional commercial platform (movie theaters) have grown in the same proportion. In this context, some relative disadvantages of this segment can be perceived when considering the rival firms that establish a commercial and highly lucrative market spot. But, paradoxically, domestic film producers have remained in the market, competing alongside with foreign mainstream producers. The perception of such continuity has motivated the accomplishment of this study, which aims to comprehend the logic of location decision in terms of the kind of film to be produced, among a diverse set of current types of films. Hence, the market structure was considered with a strategic analysis of the differentiation decisions based on Hotelling’s linear city model. It was concluded that it is possible for independent producers coexist with profit-oriented ones in this market.
