| Summary: | This article discusses the paid domestic work relationships in contemporary Brazil, from the analytical proposal of understanding the articulation between gender, race and class. Associated with the persistent sexual division of labour, structural racism and class struggle have produced a picture of serious social inequality. As one of the most sensitive expressions of this inequality, the existence of a contingent that exceeds 6 million domestic workers in the country, in 2019, of which 61.6% are black women and only 28.2% hold a registered employment contract (PNAD Contínua). Based on statistical data from the last decades, the study points to a profile of paid domestic work, such as the expansion of daily paid labour modality, kept apart from the recent achievements on the legislation, established in Constitutional Amendment No. 72/2013 and Complementary Law No. 150/2015. |
