Description
Summary:The paper presents the initial results of a research that aims to register and geolocate, on an interactive digital map, places of worship related to Afro-Brazilian religions and expressions of religious art found in them. In its current stage, the research is centred in the city of Rio de Janeiro and covers the period between 1890 and 1941. As much as a panorama of Afro-Brazilian religious art and places of worship, the map is intended as an act of memory against forgetting the harsh police repression that persecuted Afro-Brazilian religions during that period and as a denounce of its underlying racism, which is still strong in contemporary Brazilian society.
