| Summary: | Known by both Western tradition and Church as music patron, Saint Cecilia is, actually, only a Christian Martyr. The article starts from three Paulista representations of martyrized Saint Cecilia that are executed by artists Benedito Calixto de Jesus, Marino del Favero and Candido Portinari, in order to analyze and problematize the iconographic circulation of the saint lying body in the Republican context in the early twentieth century Sao Paulo. One proposes, therefore, her martirial iconography as hagiographic, historic, theological and artistic discourse. |
