| Summary: | This work aims to analyze some portraits in which the Portuguese monarch Dom José I (1714 - 1777) is represented. The cultural function of these visual representations becomes clearer when the conditions of their demand and execution are observed, as well the places for which they were intended. We seek to reconstruct the circulation of the works, so that we can apprehend the development of this portraiture that originates in the metropolis, crosses the Atlantic Ocean and reaches Portuguese America. |
