Description
Summary:The distribution of per capita family income (RFPC) and expenditure (DFPC) is analyzed considering data from the 2017-2018 Brazilian Family Budget Survey (POF), comparing it with its two previous editions. Additionally, the RFPC Gini index is decomposed according to its components. The results show that, between the POFs 2008-2009 and 2017-2018, there was an increase in the average level of RFPC and DFPC and a reduction in its inequality distributions, following the trends already observed between 2002-2003 and 2008-2009. However, between 2002-2003 and 2008-2009, the decline in inequality was driven by a reduction in regional disparities, while between 2008-2009 and 2017-2018, interregional inequality increased, explaining why general inequality has fallen at a reduced pace. Gini index decomposition shows that RGPS pensions, which were already progressive in 2008-2009, showed a 10% drop in its concentration ratio.
