Summary:This paper presents activities developed with teachers in training focusing on the teaching of science in early childhood education and in the first grades of elementary school. The course “Scientific Education” is part of the list of options for the Pedagogy course of a public university in São Paulo and the experience reported here refers to the first semester of 2016 and 2017. Based on a Paulo Freire's perspective of education, the experience aimed to present science education as one of the components of basic education and highlight its role in student education, developing procedures related to the practice of scientific activity. It also sought to discuss the formative potentialities of spaces such as museums and science centers. The results obtained during the process, as well as the discussions and problematizations experienced, indicate the relevance of a of teacher education for the early years of elementary school that addresses the themes and issues related to scientific knowledge and their role in our society.
