Summary:In this paper, we aim to contribute with discussions about the indigenous issues in Brazil, more specifically the Tupinambá people from Olivença in the south of Bahia. From an ethnographic research, with contributions from Oral History, the transcribed interview with the indigenous Yakuy Tupinambá made it possible to emphasize elements of her affirmation as an indigenous. Such affirmation implies processes of existence, persistence and resistance. Her narrative enables one to understand how memories are important to her assertion, her people and her territory; it also reveals meanings of concerns about the (un)told history, the process of (de)colonization, territorial recovery, among others issues
