Description
Summary:Academic research on open spaces in light of their cultural traditions is uncommon in Brazil. Understanding the origins and promoters of green spaces and/or gardens in old Brazilian colonial settlements makes possible new readings on these places and on listed complexes. We believe that this line of research can contribute towards conservation of the landscape patrimonyat UNESCO heritage sites. However, we highlight the validity of a preservation model still based, above all, on protection of the building and not on the permanence of the emptiness, open space and private gardens.
