Description
Summary:This paper deals with the new D. João VI Museum, which belongs to the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. It examines several points concerning the Museum: its creation in 1979; the formation of its collections, originated after the old Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, afterwards National School of Fine Arts; its relation to the Graduate research; and the revitalization projects, specially the one sponsored by PETROBRAS. This project had begun on July 2005 and concerned four topics: the hygienization of the collections; the expansion of the Data Base and its insertion on the Museum site: www.museu.eba.ufrj.br; the edition of a new catalogue; and the reopening of the Museum on December 2008 with anew curatorship. The article focuses specially on this last topic, emphasizing its most important feature – the elimination of the permanent exhibition and the opening of the Technical Reserves to the public – and discussing its premises, either for the Museology either for the History of Art.
