| Summary: | The main theme of this article is the analysis of the repercussion of the book-album Brazil Picturesque (1859-1861), by Victor Frond and Charles Ribeyrolles, through the texts published on the period’s newspapers. This work had a huge repercussion because of the themes approached and because of the critical approach regarding Brazilian society. The pressemphasized the political past of its authors and the liberal character of the publication. Positive comments were also given to the clear and technical quality of the lithographs. These set ofimages, amply made public, gained an autonomy from the book and motivated formal innovation, which showed up to be important to the period’s painters and photographers. |
