Description
Summary:This paper presents an analysis of “A Banda”, song by Chico Buarque. The version of the recording used in the analysis is by singer Nara Leão, whose instrumental arrangement is by the composer Geny Marcondes. The purpose is to analyze both the text, the music and, above all, the Marcondes arrangement. These procedures showed that “A Banda” is a simple song and at the same time complex. The text, full of allegories and antitheses, presents a message of hope as well as, covertly, of protest. In addition, the compositional resources used by the arranger provided subsidies for a greater apprehension of the musical discourse, which also, in the past, provided the song to be widely appreciated by the public through record sales.
