Description
Summary:The Bahian writer Maria Ignez Sabino Pinho Maia (1853-1911) dedicated herself to the study of the trajectories of famous Brazilian women in her work Mulheres Ilustres do Brasil (1899). We made use of her literary and journalistic production to explore the interpretive hypothesis of a feminist historiography proposal linked to Ignez Sabino's literary project. For this purpose, we will use novels, poems, short stories, articles and biographical profiles published by the writer in the national and Portuguese press, in order to: 1) present to the readership an overview of Sabino's extensive work and 2) show how it articulates with interpretation of the writer on the history of Brazil and the role of women in the construction of politics, culture and Brazilian society, especially in the context of transition between the Monarchy and the Republic, a decisive moment in the claim of rights for women and clashes waged by feminism in the national press.
