Summary:This article aims to offer subsidies for a better understanding of the peculiarities of how the Faculty of Education of the University of São Paulo had been constituted, both in its antecedents and in its first 20 years of independent existence, from its installation in January 1970. It also seeks to offer information and analyzes referring to a period of institutional changes marked by internal political changes, in addition to those that occurred in society. Methodologically, it is a documentary and bibliographic research, complemented by the testimony of the author's own institutional experiences in uninterrupted 50 years of life at FEUSP, being, in this sense, an investigation that is related to the (auto)biographical approach.
