| Summary: | The production and circulation of indigenous cinema in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (Colombia), has configured indige-nous masculinities that are linked to the mythical image of the bat. The indigenous media have made it possible to consolidate national and transnational networks that constitute cosmopolitics that condense issues related to being indigenous, the territory, culture and the politics of images. In this article, the repatriation of the visual archives of the Marqués de Waverin to the arhuaco people is discussed in which the leader Juan Bautista Villafaña (Duane) appears in the 1930s, father of the Arhuaco filmmaker Amado Villafaña. The repa-triation of these images is also a political action that is related to the construction of claims around visual sovereignty and collective property, which allows indigenous peoples the possibility of (re) interpreting their cultural memory; a land in permanent dispute. |
