| Summary: | The controversial presence of sugarcane in rural settlements in recent years require a careful reflexion over its interference in the way of life of the settlers and in the relation of the settlements with the dynamic of the regional development. The presence of sugarcane in the settlements has been causing internal conflicts, non-consensual debates about the past/present/future of these experiences. The analyses of the partnership with the agro industries is crossed, from our point of view, by the notion of tension plot, demanding to be given in to the analysis of the existent inequalities of this polemical settlers’ integration to the sugar and alcohol processing plants, as well as the socio-economical environmental consequences of the transformation of rural settlements into sugarcane cellars |
