Este trabalho trata da velhice no meio rural e tem por pressuposto que o viver na cidade e no campo apresenta aspectos peculiares enquanto espaço marcado por tradições e valores. Assume-se aqui a perspectiva da antropologia, a fim de compreender como a vida social é produzida e reproduzida por idosos no campo. É importante olhar a sociedade onde eles estão inseridos e o como ela se refere a esses sujeitos. A interpretação dos processos de vida contempla a velhice no meio rural português e num pensar comparativo instiga-nos a explorar as práticas e representações da velhice no contexto rural brasileiro.
