O artigo se propõe a destacar a importância da ocupação da Fazenda Sarandi, no Rio Grande do Sul, em janeiro de 1962, para o andamento dos projetos de colonização e reforma agrária desenvolvidos durante o governo de Leonel Brizola (1959-1963). Nesse sentido, a partir das versões de seis espectadores que estiveram envolvidos com o evento de formas distintas, busca-se evidenciar como a organização da ocupação utilizou uma série de elementos que foram indispensáveis para legitimar tanto a mobilização quanto a resposta positiva encaminhada pelo governo.
