| Summary: | The study evaluates agriculture performance in Minas Gerais, disaggregating it by mesoregion for the 1994 to 2008 period. It seeks to identify the dynamical products in each mesoregion based on their local growth rates. For that, a shift-share model was applied to the production value of the main crops in Minas Gerais. Results show that the dynamical products, mainly grains and fruits, are classified as a more modern production, linking such dynamism to a higher level of technological and capital investment. Stagnant crops, on the order hand, are identified with a more traditional production system, characterized by higher costs
and low technological investments, demonstrating, therefore, reduced growth rates for its mesoregion when compared with the rest of the state. |
