Description
Summary:This article, based on ethnographic research, considers the process by which, in the last decade, the Tupinambá people of Serra do Padeiro (in the southern part of Bahia state, Brazil) have retaken possession of its traditionally occupied lands. More specifically, the article focuses on the retomadas de terra, which are presented as the main form of political action developed by the group nowadays. By analyzing the case of Serra do Padeiro — inspired by the analytical framework developed by Lygia Sigaud, concerning landless peasants occupations in the state of Pernambuco —, the article aims to contribute to the literature on "retomadas de terras".
