Description
Summary:This article presents an ethnographic reading of the institutional proceedings and the divergent institutional positions generated by such proceedings referring to the partial territorial overlap of the Quilombola Territorry of São Roque and the National Parks of Aparados da Serra and Serra Geral, in Praia Grande, a city in the state of Santa Catarina, in the south of Brazil. First, the article presents a historical characterization of the territoriality of the quilombola community. This community has its origins linked to the slave economy established between Campos de Cima da Serra and the coastal lowlands, in the border of the states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. Then we explore the impacts, which resulted from the creation of the National Parks, on the lives of the quilombolas. Finally, we seek to describe the spaces of negotiation, as well as the main arguments and disagreements which constitute the action of the institutional agents involved in the process.
