Description
Summary:This article deals with a complex case of triple territorial overlap in the Iguape Bay region in the Reconcavo Baiano (Brazil), involving maroon territories that have already been delimited or in identifi cation phase, the Iguape Bay Extractive Reserve, and the naval industrial center of Bahia, which is in the process of being created. At issue are the different interests, sometimes converging, sometimes antagonistic, of companies of the oil sector, the shipbuilding industry, the Government of Bahia State and Several federal institutes (Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform - INCRA and Chico Mendes Institute- ICMBio), and those of traditional populations, specifi cally the maroons and artisanal fi shermen. The study aims to briefl y present the different proposals for settlement and land use in the region and the confl icts arising from them.
