Description
Summary:This paper discusses the situation of day labourers in family farms in the municipality of São Lourenço do Sul - RS. The discussion presented here is part of the analysis developed within the thesis, otherwise restricted here to thirteen interviews. From the analytical model developed by Sorj (2008), to whom Brazilian agriculture is divided into three specific segments, it is proposed to focuson day labourers considered here as belonging to the category called by the author of marginalized household production. The collected information allowed us to verify that the work done by day labourers is quite precarious, being marked by its deregulation and stratification by race and gender, which privileges white men. Finally, it is important to highlight the need of those labourers to have some sort of representation to enable them to access social protection and a prospect of a future away from poverty.
