| Summary: | The researchers engaged in study of the rural population of Santiago del Estero use the notion of peasant. The use of this concept goes back to an old debate between "campesinistas" and "descampesinistas" positions. From the study of a particular group of rural families from the Figueroa department, in this article I problematize the notion of peasants and I argue that this concept is inadequate to understand the social nature of those families. I understand that the categories "working class with land", "semi-proletarian" and "petty bourgeoisie" allow more precise approach to the social being of the families concerned. |
