Description
Summary:This paper presents the construction process of the National Policy of Territorial and Environmental Management of Indigenous Lands – that intends to consolidate a new paradigm in the relationship between the State and Indigenous Peoples in Brazil, and discusses the particularities of one of its main implementation instruments, namely, Management Plans of Indigenous Lands. The Policy establishes that development in indigenous lands should come along the sustainable use of the natural resources and settles the fundamental role of indigenous peoples’ participation in planning the management of their lands. In order to promote the discussion about Management Plans as strategic tools for the Policy’s effectiveness, we review the governmental guidelines for their elaboration, a sample of publications of Management Plans elaborated with different indigenous peoples, and the case of the Management Plan of Kampa do Rio Amônia Indigenous Land.
