Description
Summary:This article explores the analytical possibilities of the concept of land, as used by the inhabitants of the village of Tourém, in Portugal. Its objective is to develop an argument that has their narratives and notions of land as a starting point in order to build analytic categories such as territoriality and vicinage. The ethnographic endeavour contemplates family histories, the narratives of Tourém’s inhabitants and our experience in the village. It studies the uses and abandonment of the land and the manner in which the land constitutes itself as process for considering emic categories of different lived experiences.
