Summary:Cutting sugar cane requires a great expenditure of energy, not only from the body but also of the social being. The aim of this paper is to present some implications of the relationship between work and gender in the cutting cane labour, and the physical and psychological illness as a result. The survey was conducted in Araçuaí/MG , a place that had intense migratory flow to the São Paulo sugarcane fields. The sickened cane cutter sees in her illness dismantling what was foundation in their social life, and family relationships are reorganized. Realize an adaptation of the body to class and gender condition.
