Summary:The last few years highlights the surprising expansion of sugarcane in the State of São Paulo. This process has been reconfigured territorial and demographic dynamics in different regions. Considering these changes, this paper emphasizes the region of Jales, in the northwest. As the central theoretical proposition of the article, it is emphasized the concept of agropolization and its interfaces between urbanization, agriculture globalization and the new international division of labor. The evolution of the population is the dimension used to discriminate different stages of urbanization. Demographic censuses and the records of agricultural production of the Data Analysis System State were the mainly database used. In addition, it was done interviews with local administrative officials and it was applicated questionnaires between urban and rural households.
