Description
Summary:Literature has a rich field to be researched about the relation between the human being and nature. Writers and researchers, despite the specificity of their works – art and science – have common points about the nature of the perceptions and the environmental experiences. Guimarães Rosas’ literature has a multiplicity of meanings for nature which comes from his wanderings, observations and experiences and from which, in turn, emerge a conception and a deep knowledge about the flora and fauna and the people of Brazilian countryside. This article interprets the “character” of the burity palm in the context of the cowherd culture of Brazilian savannas, using Guimarães Rosas’ writings, ethnographic data and my own observations.
