Description
Summary:Festivals are fields of distinct approaches for research in several areas of the humanities. This article aims to highlight the importance of the pictorial records of French artist Jean-Baptiste Debret (1768-1848) during his stay in Brazil from 1816 to 1831, focusing on Dia d'entrudo and the marimba. In this path, the analysis will be through the watercolors Dia d'entrudo (Carnival) (1823); Passeio de domingo à tarde (1826) and Viola d'Angola. Music of the blacks (1820-1830). Thus, we will begin our discussion on the entrudo feast, represented by Debret, in which the artist reveals through his point of view the exuberance of festivity and colors in the tropics.
