Description
Summary:There was an avant-garde movement of concrete art in Sao Paulo city, Brazil, especially from 1952 to 1959. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the relationship between the concrete art movement of Sao Paulo and art collecting in different periods. Therefore, a resource for a chronological history of the seventy-year period has been made. That history is composed of moments in which a certain status of the linking between the art movement to its private or institutional collectors exists. The methodology was the artistic recognition analysis. The main theoretical resources were taken from the sociology of art. The materials were interviews with the author, books on art collections, and newspapers from other periods, among others. The conclusion is that the relation was not linear nor cumulative and that its beginning was late.
