Description
Summary:Based on ethnographic experiences with Rio de Janeiro samba school themes that contain religious references, this article aims to point out possibilities of articulation between celebration, art, culture and religion. It is based on the accompaniment of the parades of Renascer de Jacarepaguá, in 2016, in honor of Ibeijis, twin saints and orixás, and Estação Primeira de Mangueira, in 2017, with a storyline that dealt with the relationships between saints and devotees. The ethnographies were carried out collectively by members of the Research Group on Anthropology of Devotion of the National Museum/UFRJ, who started from an accumulated repertoire of discussions in the area of the "anthropology of devotion" and the study of religions or religious festivals stricto sensu. However, the process of approaching the universe of the samba schools produced an opening of horizons, provoked by the experience of approaching religion as a carnival theme. It is the discoveries and impasses of this change of context in a research course that we will try to explore here. Video presentation: https://youtu.be/uDLKJcDKpgM
