Description
Summary:The purpose of this article is to investigate the social experiences of “centenarians” africans and afro-brazilians in the city of Rio de Janeiro between 1890-1906. The proposal consists of evaluating the conditions under which these subjects lived, established relationships and moved around the federal capital in the early years of the “Primeira República”. For that, the sources mobilized in this work include the Municipal Census of 1906 and the press of the city of Rio between 1890-1906. The relevance of this delimitation is to reveal new possibilities for understanding the trajectories of black men and women after the Abolition from a perspective based on racial relations.
