Description
Summary:Informality is a structural characteristic of productive organization and labor markets in Latin America. It is strongly marked by the structuring axes of the matrix of social inequality, exposing workers to severe vulnerability in terms of income, working conditions, access to labor rights and social protection. The objective of this article is to develop a reflection on the origins and evolution of the concept of labor informality in Latin America based mainly on the elaboration of ECLAC and ILO. In this sense, it is necessary to include “atypical” jobs and new forms of informality in the analysis. And to understand the challenges of a new social protection agenda and of providing adequate legislation for platform workers.
