Description
Summary:The aim of the article is to evaluate the dynamics of the Santa Catarina labor market in a comparative perspective with the Southern region and Brazil. The results show that the deterioration of this unique labor market has not been as intense as in the rest of the country, but it can be identified by the increase in the proportion of workers in the informal sector, including among the most educated, the stagnation of labor income and the increase in unemployment and underemployment due to insufficient hours worked. In addition, there are significant differences between men and women in the regional labor market. At the same time, the deindustrialization scenario seems to be less intense in Santa Catarina, compared to the southern region and the country as a whole, which is evidenced by the industrial sector's continued participation in value added, formal employment and exports.
