Description
Summary:The predominant regional production patterns in the North (in the Amazon biome and the “cerrado”) have been integrated into globalized circuits through the expansion of the agricultural frontier and neo-extractivism, causing impacts, conflicts, destruction and transforming the region's labour market. Capitalist sociability and the actions of the state, whose role has been corrective and rectifying, have helped to form a heterogeneous and complex picture of the world of work, ranging from extensive informality to persistent rates of contemporary slavery. The purpose of this article is to analyze the labor market in Tocantins, focusing on unemployment rates, underutilization, informality and monthly earnings, highlighting recent trends. In addition, it clarifies that the agribusiness value chain and neo-extractivism have placed the state of Tocantins in the modern production circuit and in the new dynamics of accumulation, causing the corrosion of regulated labor.
